I run Plex Media Server to serve up any Media I have in a digital format to various devices around the home:
- Wired-in Samsung Smart TVs
- iPhone Plex Client
- iPad Plex Client
- via the web interface when at home or on the go
Plex Media Server is a powerful solution that is continually under development by the Plex team to provide a very nice interface for displaying media. Recently I purchased PlexPass, a subscription to Plex (which is normally free) to gain access to premium features. These include early release candidates of the software, and more interestingly for me, the ability to download content for off-line playback on my iOS device. PMS is very neat, it transcodes to the correct format for your device and to work with the available bandwidth you may have when accessing remotely.
Thanks to my friend Rob for recommending Plex a few years ago. We haven’t looked back.
